Oritani Field Club on Camden Street. |
The purchaser of the Oritani Field Club is Hekemian & Co., a big, Hackensack-based real estate development and management company, according to reliable sources.
A contract for the sale of the 2.3 acres, opposite Hackensack Toyota on River Street, was reported in The Record of Woodland Park on July 29, but the paper was unable to find out the price or the buyer's name.
The deal will close in 2015, the club's president said.
The club, founded in 1887, has tennis courts and a pool -- a pleasant oasis along a busy, traffic-clogged street crowded with car dealers, auto repair shops and fast food.
River Street was dubbed "Tin Alley" because of all the dealers who hawked cars and trucks along the four-lane thoroughfare.
Update
The Camden Street club building was torn down in 2017 to make way for apartments.
