Staff Writer John Cichowski has written a Road Warrior column every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday since he took over the beat from the original, Jeff Page, in late 2003.
Two things soon became apparent: Cichowski is no Jeff Page, and a large number of columns by the new writer contained serious errors that were never corrected.
Today, his Wednesday column is missing, a bit strange considering that Cichowski even wrote ahead so his column would appear during vacations.
Did the editors file a missing columnist report or are they hoping Cichowski got lost somewhere between his home and the office?
Cichowski's last column was flawed, according to a concerned reader, who fired off another e-mail to management:
"In his March 24 column, the Road Warrior strikes out with his third misleading and mistaken report this year about the Yellow Dot (Medical Alert) Program legislation that Governor Christie sent back to the Legislature with a conditional veto.
"Road Warrior is still in denial and unable to comprehend the financing that the Legislature clearly planned for in this bill, and also completely misreported it in his Jan. 30 column.
"Road Warrior mistakenly reported the legislation was conditionally vetoed by Christie because there was 'no money' included in the bill, even though he conditionally vetoed it for the exact opposite reason: He didn't want New Jersey to spend state funds needed for this legislation."

Road Warrior is off his rocker again
Isn't it rich?
For the third day in a row, today's front page carries lavish coverage of the $338 Powerball prize and the winner, Pedro Quezada, a Dominican who ran a bodega in Passaic city.
Minorities usually don't land on Page 1 unless they've killed somebody, and you can expect that any time now, Editor Marty Gottlieb and the rest of geniuses running the media will forget about Quezada and his impoverished neighborhood.
Fender-bender news
The big local news today is another accident, this one on Route 17 (L-1).
The big Hackensack news is an Easter egg hunt (L-6 photo), though there are full stories from Teaneck (L-2) and Englewood (L-3).
That kind of coverage is no accident, but can be traced to the sheer incompetence of head Assignment Editor Deirdre Sykes and her lazy deputy, Dan Sforza, who day after day fail to find enough news to fill Local.
Today, they need an overlong wire-service obituary of Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Anthony Lewis, who no doubt was a pal of Gottlieb's when they were both crusading journalists at The New York Times (L-5).
North Jersey Media Group (Plantiff)vs Englewood Public School District and Maria Engeleit,Custodian of Records for Englewood Public School district (defendant).Case Ber-L-700-13.Jennifer A Borg Esq.appearing on behalf of NJMG.Mark A Tabakin Esq. on behalf of defendant. Argued March 5,2013. Decided March 5,2013,at the Bergen County Courthouse Judge Peter E Doyne Presiding Judge. The case was argued in reference to the Open Public Records Act (OPRA). Above information found on NJ Courts online,Access to Public Information.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think Mr. Sasson? Should Attorney Mark Tabakin have argued that North Jersey Media Group gets preferential treatment by having one of there lawsuits hidden in the NJ court system under the caption ABC vs DEF,even after the court had it amended? I wonder how Judge Doyne would rule if he was given this information using the rules of OPRA? Whats your opinion Mr. Sasson?
I'm not sure that would have persuaded the judge to rule against NJMG in the Englewood case.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't believe OPRA affects lawsuits, and sealed or disguised files.
ReplyDeleteYou might be right, but it does make the Judge question the Fiduciary Conduct and Honor of the NJ Lawyer standing before him for future courtroom battles.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope you are right.
ReplyDeleteI think the appropriate thing to do would be to contact the Judge to report the misconduct, after all if the Judge is not aware of the misconduct he can not judge the Honor of the lawyer appropriately for future rulings. Judge Doyne is the Head Judge responsible for the Bergen County Court and the Municiple Courts in Bergen County.
ReplyDeleteI hope when your on City Counsel you do something to remove all The Records/NJMG veding machines from the Bergen County Courthouse property. The Judges/employees buy The Record newspaper on the courthouse steps, than NJMG uses the thousands of dollars of profit each year from these machines to finance there lawyer fees and lawsuits at the same Courthouse. Nice "Ponzie Scheme" NJMG has going on for themselves at the Bergen County Courthouse. Yes!!!! I Know you love this comment Victor!!! Please express your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteOne box should be removed for every week The Record goes without covering Hackensack news, and another box should be removed for every day The Record's full-time reporter goes without writing a story from one of the state's busiest courthouses. They would be gone in no time.
ReplyDeleteI looked at the Web site of North Jersey Media Group today, and couldn't find anything related to its legal activities or litigation. Also, as a defendant in a suit filed by NJMG, I have been advised by my attorney not to discuss any litigation that may involve me or corporate officers.
ReplyDeleteNJMG filed another suit against you? I couldnt find anything on NJ courts online that there is a civil suit filed against you. Unless this just recently happened and its not on the public website yet.
ReplyDeleteIt's in federal court.
ReplyDeleteHow do you look up federal court cases? Dont stay to quiet, you never know who can cross your path to help you Mr.Sasson.
ReplyDeleteResponse to your 3/31/13 comment. Look up....(NJMG launches"Legally Speaking")blog.....It was launched on 3/18/13.
ReplyDeleteThan click on the words NJMG/legally speaking highlighted in blue. There are 5 lawsuits filed by NJMG on the blog (one is against the governor).Hope this helps you Mr. Sasson.
I'm not sure. Seriously. I am represented by an attorney who keeps me apprised of developments.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the "legally speaking" guide. My previous comment was on how to look up a federal suit.
ReplyDeleteYour in a lawsuit and dont even know what it intails??? How come its in federal? Can you explain why some cases are in federal if you cant tell me about yours? I dont know much about Federal filings. Josh will take care of you,hes a good Man.
ReplyDeleteOf course I know what it entails, I just can't discuss it. Federal suits usually involve plaintiffs and defendants from different states or allege violations of federal laws.
ReplyDeleteIm guessing your fighting Constitutional Law like the First Amendment. My guess is NJMG is trying everything to have you take down your Blog.Make sure they pay your legal bills when you win.
ReplyDeletePS. Am I Hot? Or Cold? Or just Warm? Also are Federal filed lawsuits public? Can the public go read them at the Courthouse like Civil cases?Good Luck Mr. Sasson.
Just warm. I've written about the suit on the blog, when the judge ruled in my favor, but that didn't end the case. But you are right. NJMG is trying to shut down "Eye on The Record" in what is known as a SLAPP suit:
ReplyDeleteWikipedia: A strategic lawsuit against public participation (SLAPP) is a lawsuit that is intended to censor, intimidate, and silence critics by burdening them with the cost of a legal defense until they abandon their criticism or opposition.[1].
Did NJMG file suit against you for writing about the sexual harassment lawsuits the Borgs were named in?
DeleteWas that a yes or a no?
DeleteNo. It is totally unrelated, but the Borgs want to destroy me for reporting those lawsuits.
DeleteHow do you know the Borgs want to destroy you for reporting those lawsuits? Fact? Or just a gut feeling?
DeleteThe federal suit.
DeleteCan the public read your federal suit like civil suits,or its not available to the public?
DeleteYes, I am sure it is public. Call the U.S. District Court in Newark and ask how you can gain access to it.
DeleteDo newspaper/media companies and owners of these companies public or private have Ethics Committees like Lawyers and/or Doctors have? If so can you explain the system. Thanks Mr. Sasson.
DeleteThe short answer is no, and newspaper owners and publishers can be involved in a lot of stuff that poses ethical conflicts.
DeleteI'll say more tomorrow.
OK,your talking about the 9/11 Photo law suit. Yes I understand SLAPP Suit. People with wealth and power will spend $50,000 in legal fees to win $10,000 or maybe just a ruling. This is how NJMG legal department thinks. But you are wearing them out and slapping there infrastructure more than you think. They think in dollar amounts to win,but the mind is more powerful than the man made dollar. Let me remind you of one of the reasons why they terminated you. Cause your Intelligent! There spending Thousands of Dollars and time on you with there lawyers that act as there shrinks to prove a simple point.Your draining them mentally Victor and dont forget it.They have NO Power over you, just the power they think they have. If Eye on the Record is shut down do what banks, the government and people do. A Name Change! As in Victors Bergen County Blog.Let them chase you for another 3 years as they drop the Ball on there own business there running and/or ruining. Never give in! "THE FIRST AMENDMENT ROCKS"!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm grinning from ear to ear. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Mr. Sasson."REPORT THE NEWS LIKE THERES NO TOMORROW"!!!!...BLOGS ROCK!
