Reporter Jimmy Olsen, left and Editor Perry White from a comic strip. |
My open-heart surgery on Friday was a complete success, giving me many more years in which to kick around The Record of Woodland Park.
Laughing out loud.
Before I left the hospital this afternoon, I watched "Superman Returns" (2006), and enjoyed Frank Langella's turn as Perry White, editor in chief of the Daily Planet. So much personality, so much bluster.
I began comparing him to Francis Scandale, the dullard who has been hanging on for more than a decade as editor of The Record.
In the movie, one of the editors races for the elevator shouting, "Perry, I'm taking the seaplane."
Ha. During the recent flooding, Publisher Stephen A. Borg apparently put the kabosh on renting a helicopter to bring readers dramatic photos of extensive flooding in Paterson.
Borg always seems to come down on the side of money, not journalism.
Looks like we'll see ya in the funny papers again.
ReplyDeleteGlad to know that everything went well and you are on your way to a good recovery.
Just to let you know the Record didn't let us down with their usual boneheaded LOL WTF reporting during your absence.
As an example, the Record provided their list of career pitching milestones for Yankees reliever Mariano Rivera on the left side of Tuesday's sports front page. It was indicated that Mariano won the 1999 World Series MVP with 6 saves against the Atlanta Braves. Even if a pitcher saves every game for the World Series winner, which Mariano did not do, the most saves he can have is 4 saves for the 4 winning games!!!
Thanks, Jeff, for your support and eagle eyes.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Good to be back.
