Editors can't see writing on the wall

Governor of New Jersey at a town hall in Hills...
Governor Christie continues to promote a "Jersey Comeback."

Even if you can't balance your checkbook, you've been able to see through Governor Christie's big lies about the "Jersey Comeback" and a 10% income-tax cut that favors his wealthy supporters.

But it's taken The Record and other media many months to throw cold water on the governor's tax-cut proposal, which will cost the state $1 billion to $2 billion a year, according to a Page 1 "ANALYSIS" in The Record today.

More big lies

Still, The Record continues to humor Christie, reporting on A-3 today that he still is pushing for the tax cut by the end of the month, but opposes a small tax surcharge on millionaires to help pay for it.

Christie's bully pulpit has turned into a bullshit pulpit. And the GOP big is using some strange language.

"If we get on top of Assembly Democrats in the next 19 days ... ," Christie says. Is he going to sit on them?

He also claims he want "to continue the New Jersey comeback that has begun." What a joke.

Diesel weasels

State environmental officials have known for at least a decade that diesel fumes from buses and big trucks cause cancer, so I guess today's front-page story is Editor Marty Gottlieb's strange way of reminding readers how little has changed in that time.

Don't forget change

On head Assignment Editor Deirdre Sykes' Local front, the Road Warrior column answers a reader's e-mails on what happens when you leave the house without coins in your purse (L-1).

Bus-ted

An illegal alien who can't afford a car has been arrested for setting vehicles on fire in Englewood to dramatize poor local bus service, according to the lead story on the Local front today.

Sykes and her deputy, Dan Sforza, tell readers searching for municipal news from Englewood and Hackensack to take a hike or the ancient No. 780 bus.

Hospitals rejoice

After exploring the health benefits of eating leafy greens on Monday, Better Living suffers a relapse today by promoting an artery clogging dessert from one of the free cookbooks sent to Food Editor Susan Leigh Sherrill (BL-1).
