Manhunt under way after assault, shooting at Mahwah campground
The Record
MAHWAH
— A manhunt was under way Monday night for two men — one of whom could
have a gunshot wound — who assaulted a caretaker in his cabin at Camp
Yaw Paw, authorities said.
One of the intruders may have been wounded by the caretaker, who fired at them as they fled.
NOPE.
Investigators believe caretaker fabricated Mahwah campground shooting story
"His story changed three times. There were no spent rounds found anywhere. There was no indication that anybody was hit," a high-ranking law enforcement source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT tonight.
"There is no manhunt," he added, contradicting a local newspaper's online report.
It gets better:
ReplyDeleteEXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: "I did what I had to do," the caretaker of a Cub Scout campground who said he shot one of two men who accosted him last night in his Mahwah cabin told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.
"I have a slight concussion, I'm a little dizzy. I was unconscious for awhile," John Mazanec, 55, told CLIFFVIEW PILOT in an exclusive interview. "I have eight stitches in my head and lacerations on my hand." READ MORE:

ReplyDeleteGet the facts right, he says. Do you mean verify before publishing the way Cliffview Pilot did when it published an "exclusive" on a gas explosion in Hackensack that turned out to actually be a structural collapse of the parking garage?
ReplyDeleteSorry, but neither one of those is as good as the "you read it here first" story about the non-existent "armed hostage-taker in a police stand-off" in Dumont, which was quietly removed and replaced as if it had never been posted.
ReplyDeleteIt's time to cut the accusations. Pointing out mistakes is fine. Hurling accusations is another matter -- legally. And you know it.... Consider yourself notified.
ReplyDeleteMistakes or no, just know that you can't insult any number of independent analytical sources that show CVP's traffic.

JerryD September 2, 2011 4:42 PM: "24-hour storm coverage traffic was so off the charts (at one point, I did more than 7k in one hour, genius) that 4 diff advertisers called, instead of the other way around."
