In February, Wells Fargo Bank paid for an ad wrapped around the front page of The Record. Today, it's payback time, with a front-page story on the peanuts the bank raised for Japan relief. |
Where do you think the order came from for that Page 1 story today on a measly $1.3 million contribution to Japan from Wells Fargo Bank's ATM machines. The advertising department? The publisher's office?
After all, Wells Fargo is the same bank that presumably threw $200,000 or $300,000 at The Record of Woodland Park for a four-page ad that was wrapped around the A-section and covered the front page on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011.
Bully for you
The Record today ends a three-part series on bullying among school children -- without ever mentioning adult bullying, a subject that got a freelance reporter fired at North Jersey Media Group's AIM Vernon weekly, even though her editor approved the story.
The best the paper can do on adult bullying is a lame column by Editorial Page Editor Alfred P. Doblin (A-23) that has absolutely no relevance to North Jersey.
Up on the roof
Judging from all the local municipal news in the paper today, head Assignment Editor Deirdre Sykes and her minions treat the newsroom as one big restroom, then spend a lot of time on the roof of the Garret Mountain building looking for stories, such as the two Paterson reports that appear on L-5 today.
They apparently can't see Hackensack from there, which may be why the weekly Hackensack Chronicle is the first to report about major solar-panel projects on top of Bergen County's parking garage, which is across the street from Costco, and on the roof of the Prosecutor's Office in Paramus.

Foot in mouth
Readers have to plow through eight, tortured paragraphs on "The Story" of Andiamo, an Italian restaurant reviewed in Better Living today, but the turn-off comes right away.
Restaurant Reviewer Elisa Ung reports the owner took the restaurant's name from something an actress said in a film starring kiddie-show host Pee-Wee Herman. Herman, you might recall, was arrested on charges of masturbating in an adult movie theater.
I think I've lost my appetite.
